COVID-19 / CORONAVIRUS DISEASE 2019
Coronavirus is the infectious disease caused by the most recently discovered coronavirus. Both the virus and the disease  were unknown before the outbreak began in Wuhan, China in December 2019 according to the World Health Organization. Coronavirus (CoV) are a large family of viruses. The name coronavirus is derived from the Latin corona, meaning "crown" or "halo", which refers to the characteristic appearance reminiscent of a crown or a solar corona around the virions / virus particles when viewed under two-dimensional transmission electron microscopy due to the surface covering in club-shaped protein spikes.

HISTORICAL TIMELINEThis represents the sequence of events on how, where or when the Coronavirus originated and how many cases arise every single time and now the world is being affected, a pandemic.

CAUSATIVE AGENT   Chinese authorities made a preliminary determination that the causative agent is a novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), and other respiratory pathogens have been ruled out as the cause (WHO).  Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that can cause illnesses ranging widely in severity. The 2003 Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) epidemic in China. A second outbreak of severe illness began in 2012 in Saudi Arabia with Middle East REspiratory Syndrome (MERS). The said Coronavirus, upon the carrying out autopsy, the virus is characterized by obstructing respiratory pathways with thick mucus that solidifies and blocks the airways and lungs.

MODE OF TRANSMISSION
Human to human transmission of coronaviruses is primarily thought to occur among close contacts via respiratory droplets generated by sneezing and coughing. The interaction of the coronavirus spike protein with its complement host cell receptor is central in determining the tissue tropisminfectivity, and species range of the virus. The SARS coronavirus, for example, infects human cells by attaching to the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor. The disease is highly contagious now by its mode of transmission. Covid-19  is a pandemic which affects the whole world which now becomes a global health crisis.

WHO ARE AT RISK?
Older adults and people of any age who have serious underlying medical conditions may be at higher risk for more serious complications from COVID-19. These people who may be at higher risk of getting very sick from this illness, includes:
  • Older adults, infants, pregnant women
  • People who have serious underlying medical conditions like:
    • Heart disease
    • Hypertension
    • Diabetes
    • Lung disease

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
The Center for Disease Control reports that patients with COVID-19 have experienced mild to severe respiratory illness. Symptoms can include fever, cough and shortness of breath. Symptoms may appear 1-14 days after exposure. Other symptoms include tiredness, muscle pain, sore throat and signs of impaired liver and kidney function.

But there are people who are ASYMPTOMATIC, it means that their bodies do not manifest the symptoms of Covid 19 but still have the virus. So the experts formulated Coronavirus test kits to easily detect the virus.

Coronavirus Disease(Covid-19)Outbreak situation as of March 21, 2020.
https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019          188 countries, areas w/ cases  I  234,073 confirmed cases  I  9,840 confirmed deaths

Persons who are experiencing symptoms of the disease will be under monitoring and investigation (PUI & PUM).
They are isolated to restrict these persons to have exposure for further monitoring and investigation.
Frontliners such as doctors, nurses, nursing aids, medical technicians, respiratory therapists, janitors
and security guards in the respective hospitals are the ones in charge of these patients.

PREVENTION
We should be cautious enough and bear in mind that the most easy to destroy in the chain of infection
is the mode of transmission by following these 7 steps.

Not only these 7 steps but boosting our immunity is necessary in ways of:
✔ having yourself dehydrated preferably drink warm water
✔ eating nutritious food, zinc levels
✔ taking vitamins
✔ doing exercise
✔ getting adequate sleep and rest
✔ maintaining proper hygiene (gargle saline water)
✔ cleaning our surroundings
avoid smoking

In addition to that, we must be responsible and disciplined enough in this
time of
global health crisis that we are facing right now, a real matter to deal with.
